Terms of Service

Last updated June 20, 2026. These terms describe NovelReader account, premium sync, subscription, extension, and support behavior.

Local reading

NovelReader is a local-first EPUB and PDF reader. You are responsible for the files and services you choose to import, configure, browse, or access with the app. Local reading features work without an account.

Accounts and premium sync

Accounts are used for optional premium features such as syncing eligible reading progress, bookmarks, reader settings, library metadata, tracking data, server connections, extension configuration, and release-awareness state. NovelReader premium sync does not upload book files.

Subscriptions

Premium subscriptions are purchased through the App Store, Play Store, or another supported store surfaced by NovelReader. Subscription terms, renewal, cancellation, refunds, and billing are handled by the store where the purchase was made. In-app subscription screens show available prices and billing periods before purchase.

Auto-renewable subscriptions continue until canceled through the store account settings. Deleting a NovelReader account does not cancel an active App Store or Play Store subscription.

Extensions and external services

Supported non-iOS-App-Store builds may connect NovelReader to user-configured sources, personal servers, public-domain catalogs, licensed catalogs, or other services you are authorized to access. You are responsible for complying with applicable laws and third-party service terms. NovelReader may restrict extension behavior by platform or build channel to satisfy store rules and platform policies. iOS App Store builds include no preloaded extension repositories; users may add third-party HTTPS repositories manually after the extension safety notice and per-extension consent.

Account deletion

Signed-in users can initiate account deletion from the app's Account screen. Account deletion removes NovelReader-owned synced account data unless retention is legally required. Local books are stored on the device and remain on that device after account deletion.
